As we learned in the 2017 study Historical Thinking: An Evaluation of Student and Teacher Ability to Analyze Resources by Cowgill and Waring, students are only as capable as their teachers. Unfortunately, for the group of students in this study, that meant that the incapacity of their teachers restricted their abilities to engage in effective historical analysis of the chosen documents. This is where TeachArchives comes in: to lead educators through the process of archival research with their students in mind.
Historian Julie Golia and archivist Robin M. Katz, outline their findings and Teaching Philosophy through this important website. Educators everywhere are led through document selection, collaboration and the creation of learning objectives.
